Welcome to Major Gifts Ramp-Up. Here’s a quick question, “are you receiving the finances you require to achieve significant impact?” If not, it may be time for you to re-imagine philanthropy in ways that transform both you and the organization you serve. Major Gifts Ramp-Up is a unique approach to fund development that will challenge everything you believe about the raising of money and will make five, six and seven figure major gifts available to your organization using principles that reflect your values and mission. Major Gifts Ramp-Up generates the most amount of money in the shortest period-of-time possible regardless of history, mission or size and has raised billions for causes large and small across the U.S. and around the world.
Here we go…let’s explore the genius of Major Gifts Ramp-Up.
Major Gifts Ramp-Up (also known as MGRU) is implemented over 18 months in three phases: The Planning Phase, The Building Phase and the Invitation Phase.
Step 1, Management Philosophy requires a dramatic shift in the way nonprofit management is viewed. Charities who use MGRU prioritize donors and capacity-building as much or more as a cause or population they serve. When donors become your primary customer you raise the millions you need to safe and transform more lives.
Step 2, Major Gifts Fundraising answers the question “what’s the most efficient way to generate philanthropic dollars?” Auctions, golf tournaments and direct mail are a thing of the past. Major gifts fundraising invites wealthy individuals to share their “best gift” ensuring the highest return on investment.
Step 3, Organizational Development is performed by the CEO and staff members to determine how much money needs to be raised, in what time-period and when spent, what outcomes will be achieved. Organizational development is a detailed and internal process that answers the questions, “how much…when…and what happens when we reach our financial goal?”
Step 4, Case for Support is the most important part of Major Gifts Ramp-Up and inspires donors to give large sums of monies to your important mission. There will always be generous people who will amply support your nonprofit’s great dream when it’s backed by sound plan. Case for support shares “your dreams and plans” with donors providing them the confidence they require to make their best gift.
Step 5, Advancement Calendar is the roadmap that keeps your team on a path to success. This written series of step-by-step responsibilities contains hundreds of dated assignments which…when executed…in order and on time, ensures you reach your goal. Advancement calendar is a “task map” that demonstrates how you’re going to reach and exceed your fundraising goal.
Step 6, Prospect Identification reveals all the donor prospects within your “service-footprint” that can make a large investment. Major Gifts Ramp-Up’s DonorScope is a powerful online tool that provides you with the contact information of every individual, family, corporation and foundation with the capacity to give a 5, 6 & 7 figure gift.
Step 7, Awareness Events ensure you introduce your compelling case for support to a newly identified group of millionaires in a non-fundraising environment. These moments allow new friends to take a “first-look” at your impact plans without the pressure of an awkward solicitation. Awareness events ensure the “right people” experience your organization in the “right way.”
Step 8, Prospect Cultivation is how you turn a new friend into a long-term financial champion. Meaningful relationships are built by preparing written individual plans of care consisting of multiple points of contacts providing you an opportunity to “listen your way” to a gift. Prospect cultivation provides donors a “giving experience” that ensures they give and give and give again.
Step 9, Signature Events are large gatherings that provide new champions the opportunity to bring their personal network of friends to bear on your behalf. Signature events accomplish three objectives. They raise the level of visibility of your case for support, grow your list of donor prospects and raise “token” gifts that lead to future large investments.
Step 10, Campaign Cabinet is a group of 12 to 15 volunteer fundraisers who immerge from the Major Gifts Ramp-Up process. You may have met a cabinet member at an awareness event, signature event or through your expanding network of new givers. Campaign cabinet members will each make a significant gift and over a 6-month period-of-time perform multiple “asks” to reach goal.
Step 11, Campaign Interviews are when cabinet members invite their peers to make a large gift. Each member will select five prospects from a group 80-100 qualified donor and perform the “three-part-ask.” Campaign interview appointments are personally setup by cabinet members and will gather once every 30 days to report the amount of they’ve each raised.
Step 12, Three-Part Ask invites each prospect to share a multi-year operations gift, a one-time capital project gift, and a planned gift towards endowment. Cabinet members who make the three-part-ask are supported with a very specific set of collateral documents that keep them on message. and provide them the confidence they need to boldly invite their assigned prospects to make their best gift.
Step 13, Campaign Success answers the question “how did we do?” Major Gifts Ramp-Up campaigns come in over goal, are completed on time, under budget, resulting in happy volunteers, producing grateful donors that promotes community pride. In the end success is defined by how many more lives have been saved and transformed.
Where there is a dream, there is always an answer, and for nonprofits, the answer is Major Gifts Ramp-Up
